Donna joined ICH in 2019 to establish a Trust-wide Fracture Liaison Service to positively-impact long-term outcomes and management of those affected by osteoporosis, the over-looked ‘long-term condition’.
From 2015, Donna established the highly-successful NFLOS (Notts Fracture Liaison & Osteoporosis Service) across South Nottinghamshire (patient population = 450,000).
Within three years, service audit demonstrated a 50% reduction in hip fractures within the initial CCG, delivering costs savings of £2.3 million per annum, a reduction in re-fracture to 5% (national average – 25% within 12 months), and patient satisfaction rates of 98.5%.
Donna presented to NHS England (‘New Model of Care’), the Cabinet Office (Vanguard Project), and exhibited nationally.
Donna was interviewed by Radio 4 and was invited to speak nationally on the FLS remit, later joining the Royal Osteoporosis Society to provide strategic support and direction to Trusts wishing to initiate FLS.
Donna’s work was nationally recognised at the RCN Nurse of the Year Award (2016), the RCN Community Service of the Year Award (2016), General Practice Awards (2017), the HSJ Awards (2017) and the Nursing Times Awards (2018).
Donna is Subject Author for the Oxford Handbook of Musculo-Skeletal Nursing (Oxford Press, 2019).
