Donna has recently been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse. She is Community specialist Practitioner District Nursing at Stockport Foundation Trust, before which she was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health, Psychology & Social Care at Manchester Metropolitan University for 10 years taking the lead for General Practice Nursing and sexual health programmes and involved in the development of the first Nursing Associate Programme. With over 25 years experience in the NHS in both secondary and primary care she has previously worked as a Senior Nurse in Accident & Emergency, Practice Nurse and Practice Nurse Lead at a Primary Care Trust in the North West. Donna is particularly passionate about education, training and development for health care professionals and works tirelessly to raise the profile of community Nursing within the challenging but exciting workforce development agenda facing the NHS. Donna has a keen interest in ageing, long term conditions and contraception and sexual health, key issues in the current health and social care agenda. She has been involved in research activities including older people and sexual health, nurse’s knowledge of caring for patients with glaucoma in care homes and the use of assistive technology for patients with dementia living independently. In July 2018 she was awarded the Daisy Dignity in Care award for commitment to raising awareness of the challenges experienced by people with dementia.
